The John Galt
So you think that money is the root of all evil?” said Francisco d’Anconia. “Have you ever asked what is the root of money? Money is a tool of exchange, which can’t exist unless there are goods produced and men able to produce them. Money is the material shape of the principle that men who wish to deal with one another must deal by trade and give value for value. Money is not the tool of the moochers, who claim your product by tears, or of the looters, who take it from you by force. Money is made possible only by the men who produce. Is this what you consider evil?” It’s time to shift the paradigm. Honest money, like AOCS Silver, is the Root of All Good.
Free Lakota Bank
At the Free Lakota Bank, we issue, circulate and accept for deposit only AOCS-Approved silver and gold currencies. Silver & gold are a store of value, an equivalent of wealth produced. Paper is a mortgage on wealth that does not exist, backed by a gun aimed at those who are expected to produce it. Since we deal only in real money, we do not participate in any central bank looting schemes.
Mises Institute
The Ludwig von Mises Institute was founded in 1982 as the research and educational center of classical liberalism, libertarian political theory, and the Austrian School of economics. It serves as the world’s leading provider of educational materials, conferences, media, and literature in support of the tradition of thought represented by Ludwig von Mises and the school of thought he enlivened and carried forward during the 20th century, which has now blossomed into a massive international movement of students, professors, professionals, and people in all walks of life. It seeks a radical shift in the intellectual climate as the foundation for a renewal of the free and prosperous commonwealth.
Republic of Texas
While the rest of the country’s economic outlook turns more bleak by the day, the republic of Texas’s elected government implements precautionary measures to weather the storm. “Our three-tiered approach keeps us virtually unaffected by the federal reserve’s inflationary policy: we store our nation’s wealth in Silver, trade Silver with local vendors as often as practical, and help Texians ditch the sinking U.S. dollar by providing a cost-effective method to revert to the republic of Texas national metal currency, modeled from our currency of the 1800′s.”
Boulder Gaians
Gaians are a tool for community empowerment with the intention of generating a society that connects each individual to their creative powers and their responsibility for creating a future that we all want to live in. We guide producers, merchants and consumers to plant the seeds for a regenerative economic future; a future for their community which honors both our natural home and our local culture.
Andrew Jackson
A Champion of the people, Andrew Jackson is best known for his role in bringing the first US Central Bank to a close. The obverse of this stunning proof-like medallion features the classic portrait of our 7th President under the Constitution, while the famous statue commemorating Jackson’s role in the Battle of New Orleans is sculpted on the reverse. Also featured is a clip of Jackson’s famous quote, “You are a den of vipers. I intend to rout you out and by Eternal God I will rout you out.”
2nd Amendment Silver
The first medallion in the Bill of Rights Silver Series, the 2nd Amendment Silver celebrates the people’s right to keep and bear arms. What don’t you understand about the word infringed? What don’t you understand about “the PEOPLE”?
Ron Paul’s Campaign for Liberty
Our mission is to promote and defend the great American principles of individual liberty, constitutional government, sound money, free markets, and a noninterventionist foreign policy, by means of educational and political activity.
Barter is Better
The official medallion of the AOCS MarketPlace, the “Barter is Better” medallion is available in multiple denominations to make trading and fun!
Ag Trading Post

The Ag Trading Post is currently undergoing renovations. Check back soon for more details.
The Ag Trading Post is a general merchant like no other. We fill our store with products we are proud to use in our own homes; sturdy wares from producers that mirror our own mission and values. We require 95% of our offerings to be manufactured within the USA, with a strong focus on local production. More importantly, at the Ag Trading Post, you will not find us accepting green “cash” as payment. No credit cards either. We believe paper “money” is debt, and debt is slavery. And so, as payment for goods and services, we exclusively accept – Value for Value.
Legalize It
The Cannabis plant is known by many names, among them “hemp” and “marijuana”. All forms, including industrial, medical, and psychotropical, are illegal to grow in the United States under Federal Law. In modern times, hemp has been used for industrial purposes including paper, textiles, biodegradable plastics, construction, health food, and fuel, all with great commercial success. The Latin quote on the medallion reverse sums it up: “Abusus Non Tollit Usum”, meaning “Abuse is no argument against proper use.”
The Spirit Medallion
The Spirit Medallion is designed by Bill Weisberg and commissioned to the AOCS to represent the growing awareness of spirituality in America and around the world. With this piece the community of those who are in favor of sound money as a means of honest exchange between free and honest beings has become a reality. In .999 fine silver business strike finish, the Spirit Medallion is sure to become an important tool for the further promotion of the expanding awareness in a world in such desperate need. Namaste!
We Surround Them
Don’t believe the “Wizard of Oz” lie. There are now more than 300 million Americans. The overwhelming lack of acknowledgment from our elected officials leads us to believe that our Patriotic thinking is old-fashioned and only mirrored by a few “right-wing nuts”. When you draw back the curtain, however, you’ll quickly find that there are only a few small, scared men hiding, hoping to continue their fraud. In fact, when you really think about it, We Surround Them.
The Dixie Dollar
Dixie Dollar is privately-minted .999 fine silver currency for the purpose of enabling the Southern people to establish a sound monetary system free of the international banking cartels. The Dixie Dollar is AOCS compatible and may be spent at many AOCS merchants worldwide. It is also meant to spent in this current economy so take some along on our next trip to town and help the South build a sound monetary system one dollar at a time.
Lawful Money
Based in the authority of a higher power, Lawful Money educates while it circulates! Introduced in Stantonville, Tennessee, Lawful Money makes the argument that the Bible tells us that believers are instructed to utilize a medallion in trade that is “2.484 shekels of silver”. The obverse quotes from Isaiah 33:22, “Yahweh (The LORD) is our King” and “Yahweh (The LORD) is our Lawgiver”. In addition, the reverse cites the U.S. Constitution Article 1, Section 10: “No state shall…make any thing but gold and silver coin a tender in payment of debts.” Whether it comes up heads or tails, Lawful Money still wins.
Coin of the Realm
Always looking for a creative opportunity to spread the message of sound money, the AOCS team launched the “Coin of the Realm”, a project engineered to warm locals to the old-fashioned idea of barter and token-based trading. In a fun and relaxed atmosphere, participants now have the ability to barter with each other in closed-loop “micro-communities”, most commonly known as Renaissance Faires. Other applications of this concept include city festivals, carnivals, concerts, conferences and many other events where organizers would like to improve the revenue potential of their existing ticket system.
The Survival Podcast

“Our goals are to educate people about barter economies, educate people about preparedness and educate people about what money really is all with one coin.

We do this from a stand of morality based on our 4 guiding directions on the front of the coins, honor, courage, strength and knowledge.

TRTAM stands, of course, for The Real Truth About Money. As per the request of several listeners we did manage to get some bee symbolism onto the back to compliment the ants on the front. There is also a symbol for the American flag on the back, do you see it? It may be a lot larger than you think.”

The American Silver Dirham

Dinar Wakala LLC. is located in Round Rock, Texas and is the only US body certified by the World Islamic Mint (WIM) to produce medallions conforming to their standard. The company aims to establish an online precious-metal based barter exchange called GoldMoneyShop.com, and is developing its own medallions to be used as dollar-denominated barter tokens on the platform.

Tenth Amendment Center

The Tenth Amendment was added to the Constitution of 1787 largely because of the intellectual influence and personal persistence of the Anti-Federalists and their allies.

It’s quite clear that the Tenth Amendment was written to emphasize the limited nature of the powers delegated to the federal government. In delegating just specific powers to the federal government, the states and the people, with some small exceptions, were free to continue exercising their sovereign powers.

When states and local communities take the lead on policy, the people are that much closer to the policymakers, and policymakers are that much more accountable to the people. Few Americans have spoken with their president; many have spoken with their mayor.

Adherence to the Tenth Amendment is the first step towards ensuring liberty in the United States. Liberty through decentralization.

Discontinued AOCS Currencies

The following is a list of medallions that are not currently in production.

Freedom’s Phoenix
We recognize that Freedom was taken from us the moment the ink was drying on the Constitution. Today’s governmental structure is imploding under its own weight, and its death rattles aren’t going to be pretty. At Freedom’s Phoenix we observe, comment and try to stay out of the way. We know Freedom will rise from the ashes, and we want to make sure that everyone’s Freedom is never signed away again by those who believe they have the power to do so.
Free State Project
The Free State Project is an effort to recruit 20,000 liberty-loving people to move to New Hampshire. We are looking for neighborly, productive, tolerant folks from all walks of life, of all ages, creeds, and colors who agree to the political philosophy expressed in our Statement of Intent, that government exists at most to protect people’s rights, and should neither provide for people nor punish them for activities that interfere with no one else.
We the People Foundation
We The People Foundation for Constitutional Education exists to Protect and Defend The Constitution of The United States of America. As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, we are not concerned with politics or personalities in office. Our objective is to return America to its founding principles, from which the vast majority of our elected officials in both parties and all branches of our government have greatly strayed, further and further in recent years. From our perspective, our Republic is in grave danger, our Constitution hangs by a thread.
Candidate Currency

The AOCS unveils its latest complementary currency line, dubbed “Candidate Currency” paying tribute to public office seekers that walk the walk. According to American Open Currency Standard Executive Director Rob Gray, the line will feature “…candidates who put their money where their mouth is.”

We believe future Adam Kokesh is the perfect candidate to launch this series and we are proud to support his campaign. The limited edition medallions are exclusively available as a “token of appreciation” to campaign donors that contribute $50 and use the promo code “AOCS” through the campaign websites.

Soto Nation of Turtle Island
The Soto Nation are the spiritual leaders of the Anishinabe Nations that recognize North America as the Great Turtle Island. The story is still told of the rebirth after a terrible flood of the land masses on the back of a great turtle descended from the great spirit, Kichi Manitou. In the native traditions the turtle symbolizes longevity and carries the world on her back. This symbol against a mirrored background adorns the obverse while another vital symbol of rebirth, the Thunderbird, is featured on the reverse. This piece is planned as the first in a series of pieces recognizing the many nations of the Anishinabe.
The Forgotten Founders

Born in a tavern and ending in a tavern The United States Founding governments occupied 11 different capitol buildings, experienced 15 years of challenges including war, hyper-inflation, a failed constitution, judicial corruption, armed citizens and U.S. Army rebellion.

Collect all 10 AOCS Approved Silver half ounce .999 fine medallions dedicated to the 10 brave men that each proudly answered to the call of “President of the united States of America”.

Talk Radio Patriot
The image of Thomas Jefferson juxtaposed to the elements of radio broadcasting bring together the critical elements of this design intended to acknowledge the 1st Amendment right to freedom of speech in America. With a stunning proof-like finish, this piece designed by Terry Jenkins should prove popular to the burgeoning talk radio audience and producers.

  1. Leah Caldwell says:

I wish to confirm that the dirham and dinar which are part of http://www.dinarwakala.com are also part of your aocs-approved silver currency.

    • Leah – Though both the Dinar Wakala dirham and dinar medallions were minted in partnership with the American Open Currency Standard, only the silver dirham is officially “AOCS APPROVED”. The reason for this is that the dinar is .9160 gold, and AOCS only approves .9999 fine gold. The dirham, on the other hand, is .999 fine silver, which is AOCS Approved.

  2. Leah Caldwell says:

Can you include a photograph of the AOCS-approved silver dirham with the coins that you have presented above for visual credibility and confirmation?

  3. Jon Butterfield says:

I just found this site. I have a few of these coins, and never knew what the AOCS meant – I’m guessing that the sellers were afraid to market them this way after what happened to NORFED. I say this as simply a fellow citizen, it warms my heart to see this kind of organized effort at establishing a legitimate currency independent of the Federal Reserve’s banking cartel. It is a nobel thing that you are doing, I commend and thank you for your efforts, and look forward to any opportunities that I may have to be involved in this important endeavor. The number of independent minters you have involved makes me very optimistic about your longevity as well! I salute your efforts. Thank you.

  4. Joshua Farr says:

Is there any plan for an online electronic version of AOCS? I heard you on Jack Spirko’s podcast & it sounded like that might be a thing in the future.

  5. What about pre 1964 US silver coins?

    • Early US coinage is not approved as a private currency because it’s minted by the government, doesn’t contain .999 fine silver, and does not say AOCS Approved, etc etc etc.

The better question is “does pre-64 US silver coins work well for barter?” The answer to that question is “SURE!”

However, since we only approve privately-minted medallions that contain .999 fine silver (and follow our other guidelines), anything that doesn’t qualify isn’t listed here.

  6. Ben Meleck says:

    Rob,

There was a group of of over 80 merchants in Cabool, Missouri that are trading in a precious metal coins they have apparently struck themselves. (see blog below) The fella who started this there his name is Joshua Deathrage, I think. I’ve done some web-searches and found some contact information, but it seems to be old (2007-2010). I am nearby about 40 miles to the north, and would like to get more information. Do they have AOCS rating?

Also, where can I get more detailed information on other groups that are doing this successfully? I believe we NEED to go back to the original currency of gold and silver, but there seems to be so much resistance to the idea. Too many folks living in the Federal Reserve ideasphere and don’t see any reason to change it.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  7. Are you folks ever going to make platinum or palladium coins?

  8. Is there a reason the Silver Bullet is not featured on your list of currencies? I just ordered some. thanks.

  9. Rick Fabris says:

You’re customer service is the worst! I can’t seem to get anyone to respond. I am sorry that I ever ordered anything from your mint. I now understand that “Coins For The Cause” means for YOUR cause! Buyer Beware!!

  10. Stephen says:

I too was wondering why Silver Bullet Silver Shield are not approved or available ?
I own 2 and the obverse side claims, ‘AOCS approved’.

I’d love some feedback from anyone more qualified.
